Q: What is the difference between the UF Equestrian Club and the UF Equestrian team?
A: Team Members are also members of the club, but club members do not necessarily ride on the team. Anyone can be a part of the Equestrian Club, from people who just like horses to pre-vet students. Within the Equestrian Club, there are 3 teams: Hunt Seat, Western, and Dressage. Being in club requires fundraising, meeting attendance, community service and socials. Being on the team requires club duties and attending lessons from the individual team barn and coaches.

Q: How often do I have to take lessons if I want to show in an intercollegiate show?
A: Members who wish to show need to AT LEAST take a few lessons to get to know the trainers. After that, you should lesson whenever you can, the more, the better. However, showing improvement and dedication is more important that the amount of lessons taken. The coaches are responsible for picking team members to compete for each show, so please respect their choices. They know what is best. Work hard, and it will certainly pay off.

Q: What is the difference between an IHSA Show and Intramural Show?
A: IHSA Shows take place at different locations throughout the state (and sometimes other states!). At these shows, UF competes against other colleges both by team and individually. The coaches choose who will compete at these shows. Intramural Shows are shows held at Kimberden to build teamwork, camaraderie, confidence and experience among members. At these shows, all hunt seat members are welcome (and encouraged!) to show and compete against each other for practice and fun.

Q: What if I do not have a car of my own? How to I get to my lessons?
A: Carpooling! Carpooling with teammates not only saves gas, but also gives you an opportunity to get to know your teammates a little better. If you do not have a car, you can find out who lessons around the same time as you and ask if you can carpool. Even if you do have a car, buddy up and save money while making friends along the way. If you don't know who to ask to carpool with, try posting in the facebook group or contact Ali, the new member coordinator for more help.

Q: What if I do not have the right show clothes for lessons and horse shows?
A: Dressing appropriately for lessons and shows is very important. At the beginning of the year, we will discuss what you need to have and where you can find it. We also offer a day where we meet up to go buy clothing and necessities from a local tack shop as a group. You can also look online for some of these supplies. What you will need to have for lessons include: Riding Helmet, Polo or riding shirt, breeches, boots, hairnet, (and you might want to have your own crop/spurs that are allowed to be used with certain horses). For shows, you must have a riding helmet, white show shirt, breeches, boots, hair net/supplies, boot polish, and black gloves.
